Abstract

The present study was only conducted to investigate the contribution of self-efficacy and sensation-seeking in predicting internet addiction. The study was descriptive study from the correlation type. Statistical population was constituted of female students of the second and third grade of the secondary school who were studying in the public schools in district 8 of Tehran in the educational year of 2015-2016. 240 students were selected by multistage random sampling. General Self-Efficacy Questionnaires of Scherer et al, Zuckerman's Sensation-Seeking and young Internet Addiction was performed. Results of data analysis by pearson correlation and hierarchical multivariate regression showed that self-efficacy and sensation-seeking can predict the internet addiction in the sample group. The results also showed that there was a significant negative correlation between self-efficacy and internet addiction, and there is a significant positive correlation between the components of sensation-seeking and internet addiction; and from four components of the sensation-seeking, only adventure component forecasts the internet addiction. Therefore, it could be said that given the importance of using the internet in today's life and considering the contribution of self-efficacy and sensation-seeking in predicting internet addiction, accurate planning can be made for appropriate use of the internet.
