Comparison of Bullying, Victimization, Conflict, Anxiety, Stress and Depression in Two Groups of Girls with and without Suicidal Ideation

Abstract

The aim of this research was to compare bullying, victimization, conflict, anxiety, stress and depression in the two groups of girls with and without suicidal ideation. The research is descriptive and comparative- practical. A total of 300 female students of secondary schools (seventh and eighth grade) of Pakdasht County were selected by random cluster sampling method. They filled in the suicidal ideation, anxiety, stress, depression and bullying of Illinois questionnaires. Multivariate analysis of variance was used for data analysis. The results showed that there is a significant difference, around p<0/0005 level, in the scores of victimization, bullying, conflict, stress, anxiety and depression between the two groups of girls with and without suicidal ideation. This means that girls with suicidal ideation have achieved higher scores in victimization, bullying, conflict, stress, anxiety and depression compared to the group without suicidal ideation. Finally the results of this study has pointed to the important role of victimization, bullying, conflict, stress, depression, anxiety variables on suicidal ideation. Therefore, considering the physical-psychological damage underlying bullying, it is suggested that in order to prevent such damage, practical training should be performed for promoting the awareness of teachers, parents and other school staff.
