Comparison of mood demensions and physical body image concern in depressed women with and without sexual dysfunction

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the Dimensions of mood and worry about body image in depressed women with and without sexual dysfunction. The statistical population included all women with depression referring to clinical and therapeutic centers in Rasht. To this end, 215 patients with depressive disorder based on Psychiatrist’s diagnosis (score of over 30 in the Beck Depression Inventory) were selected as Purposive sampling. Subsequently, they were divided into two groups with and without sexual dysfunction according to sexual function questionnaire. Female Sexual Function Questionnaire (Rosen & Heiman, 2002), Cloninger's Tridimensional Personality Questionnaire (1994), Body Image Concern Inventory (Littleton & Axsom, 2005) were used for assessing variables of study. Findings of variance analysis showed that there is a significant difference between depressed women with and without sexual dysfunction in Harm Avoidance, Cooperativeness, self-directedness, and worry about body image and No significant difference was obtained in Persistence, Novelty Seeking, Reward Dependence and Self-Transcendence. The results indicated the importance of the variables of mood dimensions and worry about body image in depressed women with and without sexual dysfunction.
