Abstract

The goal of this research is to assess the quality of environment based on women perception of quality, to determine significantly meaningful variables between men and women and to rank assessed variables by women. The main question of the research is that whether there is a meaningful deference between urban space quality and gender considerations. Urban spaces as one of the important parts of social life in modem world play the constructive role of norms in nowadays public life, with representations of gender patterns and norms that govern social life in various forms. Also special features of urban spaces provide an ideal space for gender studies. The theoretical framework of the study is based on analytical model of gender in urban spaces. Quality of the environment of Karaj Family Garden was estimated through empirical quality assessment model (value of tree) and eight different criteria in four levels. The data gathered was processed using factor analysis. Results show that the Garden is of average quality while men and women have significantly meaningful different views regarding the quality. Women considered the garden to have lower quality than men. Men and women are also different in criteria such as: performance, mental comfort, joy, security and so on.
