Mother-Daughter Empathic Behavior and Personality Disorders

Abstract

The present research was designed to study the relationship of mother­daughter's empathic behavior with the personality disorders in three groups of adolescents as (adjusted maladjusted and delinquent). The sample included 60 high school girl students of one the educational districts of Tehran and 30 female delinquent adolescents (14 to 18 years old girls) of
Tehran center of delinquency.
Three inventories for assessment of empathic behavior have been used in
this study as the following:
I-Two different forms for mother and daughter empathy.
2- The SCL 90 test of emotional disorders.
3-The social adjustment scale (CPT).
The results of data analysis by using statistical methods such as t-test, correlation coefficient and one-way analysis of variance showed that: There are significant differences in empathic behavior of girls in three groups. Differences are also present in mothers empathic behavior in two group of adjusted and maladjusted adolescents. In addition the results indicate a correlation between mothers and daughters empathy with emotional disorders of daughters such as obsessive-compulsive, psychoticism, inter personal sensitivity, phobic anxiety and paranoid ideation. We also found differences in emotional disorders in three groups of adolescents
