Cosmetic surgery constitutes an important domain in the field relating medicine and culture, as well as in Sociology of body. Considering recent increase in conducting cosmetic surgery in Iran, this article took the task of analyzing and explaining social factors influencing women to go under cosmetic surgery. The research method is causal-comparative based upon which a random sample of 80 women between ages 18-45 was selected and divided into two groups. The first group includes women who have had cosmetic surgery and the second, women who have not. These two groups were homogenous according to two variables: marriage and place of residence. Findings show that there is a significant and positive relationship between cultural capital, normative pressure, and socio-economic status with likelihood of having cosmetic surgery, while there is a negative relationship between social relationships, body image and likelihood of having cosmetic surgery.
